Money Paths on the Interwebs: Domaining

There are many ways to earn money online and which I love to call  “Money Paths on the Interwebs.”  I remember a year ago, I was searching the internet on how to make money online.  I first encountered Domaining, Client based SEO, then keyword and niche blogging,  site/blog flipping, then affiliate and niche marketing.

dollars in domaining, domain flipping, domain development

Domaining

This was my first venture on the internet.  Based on my readings, Domaining is a science and art of gathering domain names that would or must have a relative value and then sell it for a profit.  There are many ways on how to profit from the domaining industry.

Buy and Hold

A person who buys domain names (mostly brandables or ones with business sense) and hold it/or make a portfolio of these domain names and sell it later for a profit.  This one is very rewarding for the reason that some companies/name collectors would buy this domains for an amount way higher than the registration fee paid.  The con to this type of  strategy is that transactions would actually depend on the interest of the buyer and unfortunately, there are more sellers than buyers thus having the seller more domain names registered, not to mention renewing them every year in order the get a higher chance of selling domain names.

What to look for:

  • Brandable
  • High probability of having a commercial value
  • age and history of name if applicable

Domain Flipping

Domain flipping is a fast paced type of purchasing a domain name and selling it for a profit.  Seller would acquire domain names (mostly generic and ones that have a tendency of acquiring a typed-in traffic) and then sell it for a quick buck.  Sometimes, names having a page rank would have a high value tagged to it.

What to look for:

  • page rank
  • a type in value (domain names receiving traffic through users typing the domain name directly to the browsers url address)
  • age and history of name if applicable

Domain Parking

Many domainers do this.  since they have hundreds or even thousands of domain names, they cannot really tend to all of them, instead, they park it and hopefully earn a few cents or even dollars.  Imagine a domain name earning a dollar per day x 30 days = $30 correct? What if 10 domains x $1 x 30 days = $300!

Webiste Development

If you have a good name and want to earn a better income out of it, you can always develop it into mini-sites.  a 5-page seo-ed site would earn as high as 10 times than a parking income can generate.  Stream of income may come from ppc networks like Adsense, Adbrite, infolinks and commission type of income from Ebay EPN, Amazon and Clickbank.

There you have it, domaining in a gist.  Be sure to be back for Money Paths on the Interwebs Part II for I will discuss other Money Making Methods here on my blog.

Work Hard or Work Smart?

There are a lot of blogs that talk about their earning reports, quick tips and tutorials.  These blogposts actually motivate me as an online entrepreneur (self proclaim) and made me wonder if they are working hard or working smart?

This week, I did a lot of tasks at hand, some sort of a full-forced-get-it-done-asap work.  I set aside a large percentage of my reading and researching and focused on application of what I have learned these past few weeks.

Based on this week’s performance, I must admit that I really worked hard.  Created a list of tasks and updated all niche blogs I managed, not to mention a disappointing  50% decrease of my earnings.  I also re-organized my keywords for my campaigns and hopeful that I can launch the latter by early next week.

This got me contemplating if I am on the right path.  Am I working hard and not working smart?  A certain part of my brain tells me that in order to be successful, I must work hard, but the other part tells me that working smart should be the best way to go.

In the end really, I think these two should be combined together.  In order to have a passive income, which is really my goal, hard work should be implemented first. Automation or “autopilot” (as some gurus say) would follow soon after the real work has been done.

How about you? Are you working Hard or or Working Smart?
